Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest extinct Volcanoes. It can be climbed at any time except in April and May during the long rains. January to March and August to October are the best climbing seasons. There are two routes Marangu and Machame. The Marangu route is the easiest and the most accessible.
Day 1: Base Hotel
Arrive at the hotel late in the afternoon.
Day 2: Mchame Forest 10,000 Ft.
Walk through the Mchame rainforest for 6 hours to your campsite in the giant heather.
Day 3: Shira Plateau 12,500 Fts
Trek for approximately 6 hours to the Shira Plateau. Overnight the Shira Hut.
Day 4: Barranco 12,795 Fts
Climb and descend steep ridges with spectacular views of the glacier to Barranco during hours walk. Meals at Barranco Hut.
Day 5: Barafu 15,092 Fts
Follow the Kibo southern circuit up to Barafu "ice" hut after 6 hours.
Day 6: Summit Day! 19,340 Fts
Leave shortly after midnight, the tough 5 hours climb is up loose scree. On a starlit night there are views to the town and villages below. Arrive at Hans Meyer peak at 18,340 Ft. at dawn. Then final ascent to Uhuru peak. After photographs, return to Barafu for a short rest and then descend for about six hours to Mweka Valley.
Day 7: Base Hotel
An easy descent through the rainforest to Mweka Village. Transfer to the base hotel for a good shower having conquered the Kilimanjaro climb. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.
Day 8: Arusha
After breakfast leave for Arusha.
