Mt. Kenya is 5199M and the only mountain in the country with a permanent covering of ice. Its glaciers, just 16 km south of the equator , are something of geographical marvel. The largest is the Lewis glacier, which you pass on the trek from Teleki Valley to point Lenana via Austrian Hut, and there are several others on the main peak.
Day 1 Nairobi - Nanyuki
Leave Nairobi at 8.30 A.m. accompanied by our mountain guide arriving in Nanyuki in time for Lunch. Afternoon is spent acclimatising . Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Nanyuki.
Day 2 Nanyuki - Old Moses Camp
After breakfast, drive to the Sirimon Park gate and begin your five hours hike to Old Moses Camp,3300 M above sea level. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3 Old Moses Camp - Shipton Camp
After breakfast, walk from Old Moses camp via Mackinders valley to Shipton Camp (4200 M) Dinner and overnight at the Camp.
Day 4 Shipton Point - Lenana - Mintos Hut
Wake up in the wee hours of the Morning around 2.30 hrs. ready to hike to Point Lenana ( 4985 M0. On a clear day, we should be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro to the South , Mt. Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east . After point Lenana, descend to Mintos ( 4250 M) for breakfast then proceed to Road Head for lunch, later dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Road Head - Chogoria - Nairobi
After breakfast, an early walk will take us to Chogoria for lunch then drive back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon having conquered Mt. Kenya.
